Can anyone tell me in simple yes or no terms does the disabled access have to be the front door? I've had a look at the regs ( all mumbo jumbo to me). Is it essential to have ramps or is that just a myth?

Yes you do need at least one entry/exit which will accommodate a wheel chair along with at least one WC where a wheel chair has full access

    1. The regs state it should be at the main access to the house unless it is not practical to do so. So YES it should be your front door unless its not practical. Why would you treat a disabled person any differently to an able bodied person?

    2. There is NO requirement for ramps. The regulations call for 'sloped access'. Theres a difference, one looks crap the other looks well. The ground levels should slope gradually to the level area outside the door.

I have no intention of treating disabled people any differently. If I'm honest I want neither able bodied or disabled people calling to my door. Thanks for the replies anyway.

The purpose of disabled access is primarily about housing for a lifetime.
You are the one who could end up being disabled!
Dublin Corporation spent a fortune upgrading many of their housing stock to enable their older and disabled tenants to remain in their homes.
They realised that there was negligible cost implications to construct a dwelling that was disabled friendly in the first place.
