Stewart Turner Pump problem

    Hi there plumbing experts!

I have an st55 Stewart turner pump running a thermostatic shower valve. It is also connected to the bath taps, but nothing else. It has worked well since it was fitted in the summer of 08. However in the last month or so it has become a little temperamental. It starts to hum when the shower is turned on and won't go until the pump get a little tap or a shake.

From looking on net and youtube, I suspect that it is something simple like the float switches or the starting capacitor. The pump is 5 years old at this stage, so obviously needs a little TLC. The crowd that I bought the pump off originally have since gone out of business so can't get a contact off them that might be able to have a look at it.

These pumps seem to be a bit of a 'no mans land'. Plumbers seem to know little about them, which is understandable as there are a good few electrical bits to them - perhaps its a good electrician I need?

Does anybody know of anyone in the Galway Connacht or midlands area that services these pumps? I need to get it back working as it should as soon as possible!

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Muckit

Howya muckit , there is a plumber up beside me here that reckons most of them can be fixed but he wouldnt be cheap for a call out your direction .
Can you take it out yourself ? There is usually a valve to stop the water not far from it .

Thanks for replies. I'll try that crowd. Yes moy. I redid the bathroom that time and did all including the plumbing myself. I put shut off valves on the hot and cold feeds, but don't want to rip it out if can get away with it as we've just the one shower! So need a quick turnaround time and need to know who abd how long it will take to fix

If I had a second independent shower (and wasn't married) I'd have no hesitation on having a go at fixing it myself. A simple service kit and an hour or two would see me right

Turns out it was just the starting capacitor that was shot. Replaced in two minutes! :-)
