What did ye guys pay when you got your very first insurance on your own, who was it with and what car did ye get insured on?

I got a quote for 1500 TPFT on a 00 SEAT Ibiza which I think is fair enough. Just looking for some sort of comparison.

Going by these quotes it would seem mine is pretty close to the mark. I got quoted for a 00 1.25l Fiesta and it was 400 more. I'd love to buy the Fiesta but I think I may stick with the Ibiza, cheaper insurance and tax. A pity, them Fiesta's are lovely little things.

That's a great price ye got there! Being that little bit older might have helped.

Going show my age here but back in 1998 my insurance on a Fiesta 1.1L full comp was £1300 punts from memory,My mate who got his licence about 18/19 I think paid over £2500 on a ford 1.3L.
Last year a certain big insurance company wanted just under 1k for full comp on a car only worth about 1k,I asked the girl was I subsidizing them sponsoring a certain sports stadium in D4.:p
This year some companies wanted €900 not including the extras I have on the policy all ready,And I have held a full NCB since 98.

£8,250 back in 2002 on a friends toyota corolla with Quinn direct. Cheapest quote was just over 6k that time. 23 on a Provisional licence. The person actually laughed when she got the quote and said to me, i dont think your going to want this...

I even sent a letter to dept of environment (was told they were the relevant dept at time) about it....was mad

    quoted €7,000 for a '99 BMW 316 auto
ended up getting a skoda fabia with quotes around €1000-€1200.
Phoned around and "Negotiated" and got it down to €830
Ended up in axa's office ready to play and the agent found another discount (or made a mistake) and knocked it down to €750.

Do the leg work and you can maybe get a reasonable quote. But the insurers know they have you over a barrel so they will gouge you as best they can.

My first quote on my first car ('01 Puma 1.7) @ 30yo was €1900, fully comp with named driver!
Rang around, got a few that refused outright (take a bow Tesco, Chill), and eventually ended up with AA for €700, delighted.

Last year's renewal was €178 MORE (€505 - €683) than the year before, I told 'em to go jump, got fully comp with all the bells and whistles (named driver, full no claims protection, drive other cars) for €499 from Chill (Axa). When I phoned AA to tell them I was off, they magically found a deal for €440. Dirtbags, so I stuck to my principles and told them they shouldn't have been such greedy gits. My principles, it turns out, are worth at least €59.
