Repeating a semester

Just being curious. I'm currently in second year in GMIT and I'm wondering what happens if I were to fail a module in this 3rd semester. The module is only a semester long.

Can I still do the 4th semester in January, then repeat the module in the next academic year?

Or do I have to wait until this time next year to repeat it then carry on with the 4th semester?

You can definitely keep doing the course. You won't get results until February anyway and you have a chance to repeat any failed exams in August.
