    Hi there,

Am thinking about getting a new computer for my photography and Videography business. I was looking at the 27" Imac and loved that machine but now seeing the new Mac Pro being released in December, what are your thoughts on it, will it be a good machine? What do you think about the fact you cant change Hard drives etc? would you need to do this often with an older Mac pro etc?

Just looking for opinions on whether to hold off for this or get an Imac!

    Cheers

I would say its going to cost a fortune. Will come highly spec'd to justify the price. I think most people who need more HD room will just use external ones so I don't really see that as being a dis-advantage to it at all.

My MacPro has the same drives in it. I use external drives for recording audio anyhow and my new mac mini set up using USB 3 drives and they are fast enough.

If I had the money I'd still be hard pressed to fork out that much. I'll wait for the re-furb'd models.....!

It depends on how heavily you are going to use the machine. if it is your 9-5 machine then the mac pro is definitely a better choice as it will save you time. But that time really depends on what you are editing. no sense working on a 10Gb Image if it's for a postage stamp! if I had the spare cash I'd be all over it but if you are a light - medium user then the imac is perfect. I know many Photographers who use imacs and others who use displays that cost as much as a mac pro. It depends what end of photography you are in.

I'd wait to see what their 4K displays (if they ever flippin' appear!) are like. Until then, an iMac would do you.

Also, absolutely no harm waiting until the 2nd gen.
