Dumb question on which wheel size do I need

Ok, as I said a very basic question, but I need a new spare wheel and ideally want to walk into a shop or breakers and say "I'm looking for a ......" Without looking like a total numpty.

The car currently has 225 50ZR16 92W tyres on it, but I've just discovered that there's no spare !

Not sure if the wheels have a size on them or not as not sure where to look.

The car has decent alloy wheels on it and I'm not looking for an alloy unless I have to, but just need a 'get me home wheel', ideally with a tyre on it that will match the other wheels/tyres

Anybody help me on this please

Just ask the scrap yard for a spare rim for the make and model of car you have (a 16 inch rim )

Different cars have different bolt patterns so be sure to mention to the scrappy (as said above) what car you need the rim for.

By looking at your other thread, you have e46 3 series.

Remove plastic cover in spare wheel space in boot. You may have a space saver(tiny) spare wheel under it.

Common new owner mistake with e46. I was so happy when I found space saver :D

Fantastic ! - is this some little BMW in house joke :), the spare wheel well is empty and they put a space saver underneath the black cover.....

It's there alright and what's more, it's never been used.

Thanks for that little nugget it's saved me a huge amount of hassle & thanks to the rest for replying , much appreciated.

I assume the well is designed to accommodate a full size spare, which would be an optional extra, and comes with a space saver as standard which is kept under the black cover.

Seems to be the idea, but for the automotively challenged it's confusing

The cover is designed to stop the wheel moving when the car goes over bumps etc and there is still room for a full wheel if you decided to get a spare alloy

Also the R16 on the tyre means that it is a 16inch wheel
