I can't wait until Christmas movies are shown on TV and I can complain about ad and news breaks even though I have the dvd sitting on the shelf beside me. :pac:

They all pale in comparison to the greatest Christmas movie ever made, Die Hard.

My recent Christmas Eve tradition has been to stay up late watching the least festive film I have on hand. A particular favourite was Sion Sono's Strange Circus, which had all the psychologically disturbing, blackly comic sex and violence one could ask for before a busy day of cheer.

I have my copy of Shoah primed for this year ;)

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang also falls into the "not really a Christmas movie but sorta is" category.

Don't be surprised if a ghostly Roger Ebert wrapped in chains shows up at your house talking about three ghosts visiting you after midnight.

As long as BBC/RTE still have the rights to The Santa Clause (the original, not the sequels) i may survive! A filthy ploy by Sky though, not as if people will subscribe to Sky Movies just for the film - a tactic just to take ratings away from Channel 4.

On a different note, today I realised that The Santa Clause is spelled with an 'e' at the end, in reference to the 'Santa Contract' in the film. My mind just blew a little....

I actually really enjoy Christmas Day, a grand old day with the extended family. It's just the two month build up that fills me with excess levels of bah humbug! And never have the time to watch a film on the day itself, so don't really associate any particular motion picture with it.

Same, Christmas itself is grand, it's the traffic, rushing, panic shopper madness in the weeks and days before that sucks.
As a former HMV employee the Christmas rush meant stress, madness, being knackered tired at the end of every day and just wish the whole thing was already over. Especially since the retail buildup starts mid October and then you have the January sales and the "I got three of this can I return it" post-Christmas stuff too. It takes up far too much of the year.

We used to have bets on what would be the most returned "must have" thing that year, the GAA ps2 game and Mrs Browns Boys won in impressive fashion :pac:

Off-topic, but I remember late 2001/early 2002, behind the counter of HMV was piled high with returned copies of Bridget Jones's Diary on video and Madonna's GHV2 on CD, both of which had clearly been the default gifts that year.

Yup, or some album that fit into the "mam would like that" category, take your pick from Michael Buble, whoever the popular classical group at the time was, or X-Factor winners.

I hated the weird dvd gift sets that didn't fit on shelves or took up too much space, I like a good crazy special edition as much as the next person but they'd be a pain to try and stack someplace. boxes that came with stuffed toys like kids movies were the worst, the boxes would get mangled.

I would pay ANY money to see that movie. It's even got the best tagline: "Some muppets just want to see the world burn"

Same here, can't stand Christmas myself, usually stick on a Star Trek marathon.

Apparently RTÉ don't have rights for Elf this Christmas either.

If you're in Dublin The Lighthouse cinema is showing it in the run up along with a fair few other Christmas classics such as Die Hard and Gremlins.

The Santa Clause was on RTE a couple weeks ago, with Fred Claus on the past weekend and The Santa Clause 2 this weekend. Guessing they're just padding the weeks until the next showing of The Princess Diaries.

A movie about Batman returning Muppets Christmas Carol. How could that be good? It would be totally unbelieveable. Who would return A Muppet Christmas Carol?

I have The Santa Clause 3 and A Christmas Story unwatched in my planner from last year. So must watch them next month.

I could see Batman returning his copy of Muppet Christmas carol when he realises they've removed "The Love is Gone" for the dvd edit. Big softie at heart.

Santa Clause the movie was the BiG Big Movie a few weeks ago, while the 1st Xmas movie saw was the one with Dudley Moore many moons ago :o

But i think it starts when they show Home Alone especially when you sit down with the little uns!

all these films about Santy etc on a "True" channel.

What are you trying to say? Next you'll be saying Stephen King's Rose Red, which airs on there, isn't a true story either. :p

It was also on the end of last Jan on Ch4 as the lunchtime film, that was nice of them considering it falls on the same date when the credit card bills come out, something to cheer yourself up :D

Once "It's a Wonderful Life" is on, I'm happy with the scheduling (though I have it on DVD now anyway).

Oliver! and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang were other firm Christmas time favourites in our house as kids.
