    SF don't seem to be against it - which is not to say they are for it - so the protest may be more muted, but there will still be a protest.

    Given his age and office I can't see how the President can suffer any political backlash - what could possibly be done to him, politically?

    The only other two points I'd make are

    ....pity it was President McAleese who got to make the visit, although I'm sure she'll feature somewhere in the proceedings of the visit

    ....given he'll be staying in Windsor, what are the chances they'll let him visit Legoland :D

    I agree I think it is a pity McAleese didn't get to be the one to make the visit. She was a great president. Higgins in contrast has set the role back 20 years to the 1960s style of an old retired career politician sitting in the park being trotted out by the government every now and then. I'm sure he is a nice guy but he is a huge disappointment as president considering his activism before he was elected.
