Question : Android Device Manager (lost phone)

    I lost my phone yesterday.
    Last night I tracked it using the device manager to near some apartments.

    However, this morning it 'can't locate' the device. I assume it's turned off or battery has run out

    My question is should I be waiting for them to turn it on and then locating again ? Also, if they erase my data...can I still track the phone, as in, will it still be linked to my google account to allow me to track it ? ...or is this done by Google Account and no unique hardware identifier involved ?
