Hi there, we've a NERA inspection next week. Has anyone had one lately or how was it? What did they look for? They've said that they want all the records for the 12 months up to the inspection. Is this the usual?

Yep, it's about 3 years since we had one but it was fairly straightforward. They paid a lot of time looking at how we keep our time keeping records, wanted to see rosters for the previous 12 months and checked them against the payroll. The were very fussy about staff signing rosters confirming that they got their statutory breaks. They checked to make sure that everyone both full time and part time got the correct holiday and bank holiday entitlements. They also made sure that we adhered to minimum wage requirements.
They asked how we made our PAYE/PRSI returns but didn't spend too much time on it. They are done on a monthly basis through ROS. The main emphasis was on making sure that all employees were being treated correctly and were getting their correct entitlements. And rightly so, I only wish they could do more inspections. I've heard so many stories of people working 60 hours per week with no breaks and crap pay.
