Piano grades advice

Hi, my daughter has done elementary grade, teacher says she's well capable of going on and doing primary grade soon. Only thing is she doesn't mind practising etc and is very good at piano, shows great patience when practising and is very proud of learning a new song etc. but gets a bit anxious about the exams.
I was thinking of asking the teacher could she just study for primary grade but not do the exam and then go on and study for grade 1 and do the grade 1 exam? I'm thinking it would cut down on the stress the exam seems to cause her. She's a fast learner, has no prob reading notes and gets her practise done without any trouble.
Also, is there a huge difference between primary and grade 1? Roughly how long should it take to prepare her for grade 1, without putting her under crazy pressure. She's 10 by the way, was a late starter in piano compared to others I've seen at the music school. Any advice or info would be greatly received, thanks!

Great that your daughter is enjoying the piano and is disciplined with her practice.
Personally I would advise that she do the exams...it is fantastic to have her efforts recognised and certified and it will also getting over this anxiousness will prepare her for future life experiences...in a few years time she will have junior cert oral exams, music practicals and the like and exam experience that she will have gained through piano exams will really help her in these situations.
A good preparation for exam nerves is to practice playing on front of people, she sounds like she does be very prepared so in the few week before the exam have a little family recital. I sometimes make the kids I teach play for one another before the exam and the bit of experience with an audience definately helps.
And she'll get grade 1 done within the 6 months...it's a bit of a step up from primary but not huge.

Thanks amklo, I wasn't thinking of it that way, she's a quiet shy child and I suppose I try to protect her too much from any unnecessary stress, but I see your point about preparing her for the future. It's good to get an independant opinion and I'm really grateful for your reply, thanks again.
