Off work tomorrow, hopefully UPC forget to flip the switch for the first session as happened in the last event ITV4 had.

Nicholson seems to run terrible in these draws - spends most of the last few years at #16 so consistently running into Taylor in the last 16, then when it comes to a comp with pretty unique seeding he manages to bink him in the last 32.

Lewis vs MVG in round 2 if they get there.

Taylor gets the easy side of the draw even though hes seeded 19, not like he needs it the way hes playing.

Dolan with a 126 finish on the Bull to beat Jones 6-5. He shouldn't have won though, Jones missed a shed load of doubles and should have won handy enough.

Great win from Beaton there over Wade. Super fightback.

UPC still going strong, kind of wish it wasn't after that Part/Hamilton match.

Standard was slightly below that of the famous Martin Adams v Antony Fleet leg from the Lakeside a few years ago, but neither player here seemed to have the excuse of being blind drunk. Averages must have been in the 60s at best, plenty of 27 dart legs.

    Oh, whopeeee, Justin Pipe now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,275 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

The cameraman is a monkey, showing players faces instead of showing where the darts are going.

    Coverage is shocking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,361 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Zooming in on the 19/3/17 corner of the board when Aidy was on a 100 finish was curious alright.

Looks like a fun weekend with everyone from players to fans staying onsite, so the spotters are probably on the beer as well.

Every single 3 dart finish was missed by the camera.

Do they even know how darts works, complete joke.

Yeah would be a good weekend away alright.

Answer is no, they don't have a clue.
Sky spotters are pros, they get about 70 days work a year between the 6 or 7 comps that Sky has. Trained by KJP, and they put time and effort into their trade and research what way players do particular checkouts.
ITV guys strictly amateurs, wouldn't be surprised if they've never done it before.

In fairness other than that I like the coverage; no bigging up grudge matches, color commentators aren't self publicising idiots, less panning to the crowd for fancy dress retardedness.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,275 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Some of it was basic stuff though, if someone has 32 or whatever left just show the 16. There was no excuse for how bad that game was tonight.

I actually enjoy the Sky coverage, like a bit of the grudge stuff they go for. :)

Glad to see MVG beat Lewis, slightly fed up with Lewis being all pally with Taylor, averaging 105 and still getting beaten by 15-8 or whatever.

MVG doesn't do the best pals stuff with Taylor and thus gets under Taylors skin that bit more which means imo he's a better chance of beating him.

Early start today, MVG/Newton starting now.

It's not looking good for Barney here despite playing well enough.

Good win for MvG earlier. Hamilton was involved in another terrible game but he gets through again. Pipe played well despite one bad leg but can't see him doing anything against Taylor when he inevitably wins.

The cameraman or woman is terrible. They haven't a clue where or when to point it.

Taylor has Barney in his pocket at the moment and I can't see Barney putting up any resistance. Hopefully MvG goes all the way. He's throwing some very good darts and great to watch. I'd like to see someone other than Taylor in the final but not Pipe. I just can't watch him. When he came on earlier I went out. MvG and Phil should be a good match if it comes about.

Keith Dellor works as a spotter for Sky and knows the checkouts and the preferences of each player and he has the people on the cameras well briefed. ITV look like they have Stevie Wonder working on the cameras.

Will be cheering on Taylor for the first time in a long while - if Pipe ever gets a TV win then they'll be nearly forced into giving him one of the 6 Wildcards for the PL.
Which would be up there with the great sporting disasters of our time.

Chris Mason is ok, but that Rawlings fella is a bit annoying.
Everything dart thrown at a triple is 'excellent'.

As for the camerawork..it's improved slighty but is still only barely getting to the bull or doubles in time.

Come on MvG in the final!

    Wow MvG

Such an awesome set of 5 there from MVG, from 4-6 to 9-6.

MvG on fire, even Taylor couldn't handle him in that session.
