I think the ball joints on my car are worn, getting a clicking on full lock, but I could be way wrong. It is a 2008 diesel Mondeo. I was thinking of changing them myself, but since I have never carried out this type job before I am a little nervous. Is it better to leave to a mechanic? Is there any knack in doing these? I would have an OK tool set, no joint breaker though. Would I need to tighten to a certain torque?

I'd say get it properly diagnosed if you're not sure. Clicking when turning usually points to CV joints rather than ball joints. Ball joints usually give a clunk when going over speed bumps and the like.

Im working on ford a while now and ive yet to see ball joints wear on one of these.

Are you getting the clicking sound when driving or when just going lock to lock ??

Steering racks in these can give bother and they make a click when you steer, a bit like a clunk. As above I never seen ball joints go in these either. Does it sound like its coming from down low?

Theres a special tool to remove them ball joints from the knuckle. Their a pain other wise.

Thanks for that, I probably described the fault poorly. When turning, the wheel feels like it is slipping, as if you drove over bottle. No clicking sound like a CVJ. I will be sticking new front tyres on it soon, so I will have a look to see if anything is amiss. Could be the tyres themselves.
