Just wondering if anyone on here who brought an engagement ring in Dubai was ever stopped by customs coming back into Ireland and stung for VAT

I doubt you would, sure a lot of people would travel abroad to get , well now or i suppose if you were going on holiday anywho you would bring one back from a place like this. I am sure it would be grand it was a few years ago but I came through with plenty of jewelary worth a bit and nothing was asked. Oh call to the Souks if you can try and bring someone who knows someone. I can imgaine you would get a beautiful ring made up if you wanted for half the price

I'd be careful anyway. Customs and Revenue are a lot more on the ball now due to the bad economy and any bit of money coming in is sought after.

I was just chatting to someone who lives out there and very well said. She said if tis on your finger then no questions asked.. If you were worried that much might be a way out of it

Just back from Dubai, visited gold & Diamond park. Was very disappointed with Cara Jewellers who I had heard alot about, its true probably the busiest store but staff not very attentive to my girlfriends needs/whats and seemed to concentrate more on the diamond rather than how the rind would look and what she wanted. Found a place in gold & Diamond park called PASSION JEWELLERS, who were excellent and had a far more modern collection of engagement rings. Staff in Passion were way better and listening to us and actually showing us exactly what we talked about. Brought a great rind from the guys in Passion who had it resized & setting adjusted for us in a day & a half

Hope she is delighted with her ring
