One of the worst things about the festive period is the aural assault from that over-rated garbage.

Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
    You scumbag you maggot
    You cheap lousy ******

Blessed are the shop workers, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the djs, for they shall obtain mercy.

Brilliant song. Who wants mushy love songs about sitting in by the fire? I want outright abuse.

It's a song that covers so many emotions, it's fantastic.
    "I could have been someone.
    Well, so could anyone"

For bringing it up you will have to spend 300 years on Lough Derravaragh , 300 years in the Sea of Moyle, and 300 years on the waters of Irrus Domnann

    That will learn yeah

Power of Love-Frankie goes to hollywood is the best Christmas song, Fairytale of New York is mediocre in comparison and the rest are just plain inferior.

I hate all those christmas songs that have been mentioned, what is even worse is that you hear the repeatedly all night long. I think if I owned a nightclub or pub they would be played once and then not again for the rest of the weekend, never mind that night.

    Power Of Love
    Pipe Of Peace
    Stop The Cavalry
    Fairytale of New York
    War is Over

    Top 5 indisputable.

It’s not really a Christmas song though, is it? East 17 only managed it for “Stay Another Day” ‘cause there was bells in it :D

A Christmas song virtually unknown outside the Hibernosphere and played to death so much I've gotten quite tired of it.

The djs will be on automatic for the next few weeks, churning out the same old same old.

Dont mind Fairytale of New York its a good song and when the Xmas drink kicks in it usually ends up with the whole pub singing along to it when the DJ plays it for the 200th time :),but these two below are my favourites

Another 2.5 or 3 weeks and i will be all up for hearing the christmas tracks, Until then it will only cause annoyance.
Amazing song but can be overkilled.

I think that’s why I would hate to be somewhere like America for Christmas. No Shakin Stevens, Jonah Lewie, etc playing on the radio. Instead you have the likes of Destiny’s Child or Usher singing crap Christmas songs.

    No thank you very much!

I will be cracking open the mulled wine this weekend and unashamedly revisit this thread.

Except this song...will not be listening to this song...

But it's about the birth of Jesus, now im not religious by any means, but isn't that what Christmas is about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

Of course it wouldn't be Xmas without good old Shaky Stevens and Mariah Carey

Cliff Richard is Christmas. For eleven months of the year he's just a creepy c**t. For the Christmas season, he is a God.

    GTFO.

That song is about real life. Not bloody mistletoe and wine and shaggin sleigh bells.

    Hang your head.

    I despise that song.

I remember something weird around the time the song was first in the charts. Smash Hits magazine had a picture of Shane MacGowan which showed his bad teeth. The black on his teeth appeared to be in the shape of numbers when you looked at the picture closely. I showed the picture to a friend and he saw it too.

I've always wondered did someone who edited the magazine do this as some kind of joke or message or if I was just imagining things.
