You better brace yourselves here folks! I spotted this in next week's RTE Guide with Sharon Ni Bheolain on the front cover.

This special one off documentary should be one to watch for next week as it is something. But when coming from the likes of RTE the quality of it no doubt will be car crash TV.

    http://www.rte.ie/ten/listings/37141886_tv_The_Irish_Child_Pageant_Storm

It show how anyone in their communities including local politicians particularly in Monaghan were attempting to (regrettably) show their failed motives when trying to stop this national disgrace of a contest from ever happening on their doorstep.

Is anyone here going to see it next Monday night? I will take a look at it to see how it unfolds.

    Well spotted dublinman1990,

It might be an interesting programme. The protests against this pageant were partially successful - the original venue in Balbriggan refused to host the event and they were forced to move to a smaller venue.

    Hopefully it's not true.

Isn't this more RTE2, TV3 sort of stuff.

It caused a fuss, but does it warrant its own documentary on RTE 1?

It caused quite a stir at the time and was a big news item so yea I think it warrants a documentary. RTE usually does a very good job on these investigative programmes as opposed to TV3 who make a big deal of telling us what we already know and adding a load of unnecessary filler.

But is it really an issue of national importance?

It seems like a bit of trivia more suited to TV3. Less than a dozen girls took part in it..hardly seems like something the state broadcaster should be interested in.

    Like Irish dancing so?

Were it not for the provocative outfits and routines I wouldn't be against it per se. I am not a girlie girl, and I would never enter my daughter in one, but to each their own as long as kids are not being sexualised. Pretty dresses, dancing and a bit (not excessive) makeup is fine.

And this is why we shouldn't have a welfare system...idiocracy!

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

Only a handful of people do this crap and the whole welfare system should be destroyed? Seriously?

I liked the conversation where they went

"We've found a new venue, it's in Castleblayney"

"That's great, did you say Casablanca?!"

    "No, Castleblayney ..." :D

I watched the whole documentary on RTE1+1 last night.

This documentary from RTE did look like a piss take on them to be honest. I thought the most rudest person being filmed was that guy Blake who presented the UK Pagent. The way he treated your man who tried to hand him a cup of tea, and than saying to him he was allergic to tea even though he wasn't, was a disgrace.

I also have the same feelings when he went off without saying goodbye to the others including the man of the house. I would never invite the likes of him or either any of them to my house because they would wreck my head for hours and hours as they seem so dumb , you wouldn't know what they talk about half the time your there.

The way that your one treated the Journalist in the pub and thinking about the all the kids to enter the pagent while passing by them in a car earlier in the doc really didn't provide me with much confidence either.

I wouldn't want them to really come back to Ireland, but, if they do have a bigger amount of negative publicity than last time either a hundred times or a thousand times more than that, than no doubt it would be a blissful early christmas present to have in front of us.

I have it paused while making a cuppa at the part where he is saying he is allergic. WTF does your man look like, seriously, how can he judge a beauty pageant and he up to his eyeballs in terribly done plastic surgery. If he told me I was beautiful I would take it as an insult. He perception is messed up to say the least!
