I was wondering how much the contimous assessment matters in German I had one today and I really fooked up bad mixing up tenses and stuff but I heard it wasnt worth much towards the module and course overall so my question is simply Do continous assessment matter or is the module comprised of grading through attendance homework and c.a.? Just a wee bit worried is all

I assume that you would be talking about the GN110 mid-term? Generally they have the percentages up on the noticeboard. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if you are it might be a good idea to pop along to the 1st year 'Sprachklinik' for a few weeks. It's basically free grinds.

Maybe have a look at these:

    Grammar Link: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~german/Grammatik/Grammatik.html

    Verb Conjugator:

Also, you don't get graded for attendance, but you will be penalised with a 'Technical Fail' if you fall below 70% no matter how well you get on in the exam. I know this from experience:)

If you are still worried, it might also be a good idea to have a chat with Jeff, your first year coordinator or Fiona in the office.

Cheers for all the links I'll email him tonight I knew about the technical fail as someone in my class already is way below 70% attendance and hopefully I'll pass the Christmas/January Exams!
    Thanks again:)

In the past like 9 weeks they've been for like one.

haha deserves no sympathy then, but what about other cases? do people get a fail if they do good on the exam but just miss the attendence mark?

I'd say it will be judged on how bad it is e.g if you miss just one or two more they may be more lenient depending on how well you do really

pretty sure you can try to explain it to the department and if they're convinced (probably unlikely) they'll let you through. but yeah, less than 70 means repeating the whole year.

usually in first year they post the attendance on the notice board towards the end of the semester, and at that point people who are just below 70% can usually make it up by attending the rest of the classes. there's just no hope for some though.

Is that whole attendance thing lumped together as one or determined by module because I wasn't in language labs or the history for five weeks each had to go to the office after they made a mistake and forgot to put my name down!

it's 70% per module, including lectures and tutorials. attendance for language labs is combined with the grundkurs sprache class, so 70% between them
