So I decided to cancel the HD subs today, Cant justify the price especially as I recently cancelled the HD & Sports package.

The Sky Package is in my wifes name but I am a registered user, just happens that when we originally signed up a million years ago I was at work when she called them.

Never had a problem upgrading a package, or downgrading a package previously. In fact when I downgraded from Movies & Sports just two months ago there was no issue, just had to give the usual account details and password.

But guess what, HD is a different issue!

Registered Users cant touch these packages or multiroom, well when I say cant touch them I mean you cant downgrade them!

I was the one that put the HD on but I cant take the HD off.

So I asked the Rep why couldnt I downgrade, his excuse was the Data Protection Act.

So I said, why is it I cant downgrade the channel package but not the HD package ?

Oh he says, the HD and Multiroom packages come under a different Data Protection rule.

So I then point out to him to stop being misleading, I said "Its nothing to do with the Data Protection Act, The DPA wouldnt allow me to upgrade a package and add all the bells and whistles including HD to the customers bill and yet wont let me downgrade a package to save the customer money!".

His response, "Its actually Skys own Data Protection"!

So I said, its nothing to do with the data Protection Act, its Skys way of trying to protect income dressed up as Data Protection to mislead customers into thinking it had something to do with the offical DPA Law.

A long pause, and then he replied, its Sky Data Protection.

I said, well you should have said that at the start and not tried to mislead me.

So there you have it, beware of Sky using offical sounding words and misleading you!

Bit of an irony here with this topic given the OP's user name :)

Ironically it was the UK Freesat HD channels available that I gave as my excuse for ditching Sky HD.

Perhaps I should rename myself Ukfreeview!

Yes, SOME of Sky representatives are liars. In my case 2 out of 3.

I received 3 calls from them in last 2 months. All 3 was about getting Sky broadband (I have Sky TV).

    1) First call
A lady called, asked me if I'm interested in Sky boradband, to which I said yes. She then asked what I have at the moment. I said UPC. She then said 'ah, ok, I need to verify something then and I'll call you back in an hour, is that ok?'. I said ok. Never heard from the lady since.

    2) Second call
A guy called, asked me if I'm interested in Sky boradband, to which I again said yes. He had no record of the lady calling me about 3 weeks before. I said I have UPC, he said that it's fine and it's no problem, which was a lie (turned out to be during the 3rd call I've got). Then he started to list benefits, among which was the phone line with free international calls. I said that I need calls to Poland and I have them free on UPC. He said that it's fine and I would get calls to Poland free as well. I requested him 3 times to confirm that calls to Poland are free and each time he said yes. I asked him 4th time and he put me on hold, came back, apologized and said that in fact they don't have free calls to Poland

    3) Third call
A guy called, asked the same things as two guys before him. Again, no record of anyone talking to me before. He asked who my ISP is, I said UPC to which he immediately apologized and said that they can't offer better than UPC at this moment so he won't be wasting my time.

Also, to date I'm awaiting a reply to my complain or a message on sky forums about lack of subtitles to On Demand. None of the downloadable programs have subtitles (those are available only for showcase programs). They make a lot of fuss about Box Sets and all that in the commercial but to some people lack of subtitles makes it quite useless. That's not of course lying, it's avoiding the matters/queries they don't have answers to
