I think a metallic blue 2003 Ford Mondeo 2.0 petrol auto would suit you best.

Looking myself for a car ~2k mark - whats best options?

Will be used for small journeys 5-10 miles max, its a 2nd car already have people carrier. Want to keep it small a cheap, 1.4 max engine, was looking at VW Golf and Focus - been on donedeal alot and feck all cars available in that range, theres a huge difference with Carzone v Donedeal dunno why this is. Took a look at some Astras but a previous boards thread said they were suspect over timing belts and Head gaskets ...

Something between 02-04, 1.4, €2k ish ... all help appreciated. Also, i usually buy from dealers cos i dont have a mechanic to come around with me and check them out, wonder peoples views on this? Anyone i work with thats selling cars always do so cos they "want rid of the piece of sh*t" ... so weary of personal sales!

    Thanks.

Buying off from dealer with ~2k budget won't get you a great car. Dealer won't be eager to honour warranty, if he offers any, unless it is a cheap fix.

But I see point of having noone to check the car in a private sale and sub 2k private buys is risky if you don't know what you are doing.

You might get a better response by starting your own thread rather than jumping onto this one.

    Plenty of machines there.
The thing is, at that money most cars sell in a day or two. Best just keep an eye on donedeal and when something comes up, call straight away and go for it

    ...

Even if it is in gweedore! Rope in a few mad people to go with ya and theres a fun road trip!
