Importing a non running modified 1983 classic car

I've just found a 1983 car that is partially restored but is still on English reg plates. The current owner brought it in to Ireland a year ago and has put a bigger engine than the standard one in but it is not yet running. Can I register something like this with revenue etc or is it too messy?
    Thanks

A car has to be roadworthy to be vrt'd, so until you can drive it into the NCT centre it doesn't look like it can be registered here.

So if I bought the car and made it roadworthy can I import it then?

f it's essentially complete, you can trailer it to the NCTS and with a bit of luck VRT it. You'd need to be creative with the paperwork if it was imported before it was 30 years old.

    Are you sure?

I understood that to be VRT'd it has to be presented for a valuation at the NCT centre, running or not.

For an NCT it has to be running and its up to the NCT centre do determine if its roadworthy

I don't believe it has to be actually roadworthy, merely be a viable car rather than a rusted out or crashed wreck. They only inspect it, they don't test it, so it doesn't have to be running imo

You may have problems with the changed engine if it isn't on the existing paperwork

To be registered, it must be capable of mechanical propulsion. If it already is so capable, I'd steer clear as you're buying into someone else's VRT complexity.

Shouldn't really, they are only really interested in the chassis number and once it matches the paperwork. For insurance you may need an engineers report to get you on the road.
