Weak Digital Optical Output on SKY+ HD

Hi y'all. at my wits end. spent days setting up the HD projector and home cinema system. All good, wires nicely hidden away in trunking. BUT, whilst I can get good DD sound from a short optical cable from the SKY box to the digital-in on my cinema system, the signal seems too weak if I have anything longer than 0.5m. I bought a number of different splitter-type boxes so I could switch between PS2/SKY/Hard Drive but just don't get any sound if there is any sort of extra length on the line or if it goes through the selector junction. So its a pain in the arse manually switching the cables between different sources. SKY customer service have washed their hands of it saying they're only responsible for providing the picture. Its an Amstrad Box that is bang up to date apparently.

    Any help greatly appreciated !!

If you can take a photo on the back of your home cinema amp and list all the equipment you have in your living room. There is a coaxial output from the Sky box. Better still the Sky box can output DD sound through a hdmi cable. Has your home cinema amp have hdmi or coaxial cable inputs?

The home cinema system is a Panasonic SA PT850. With a HD output, digital-input. The current set-up is as follows -

SKY+ HD Sound -> Theatre system via optical cable (very short one!) -> HDMi cable to junction box selector -> HD projector

PS3 Sound -> Theatre system (unplug Sky Optical,plug-in PS3 optical) -> HDMi from PS3 to HD junction box selector -> HD projector.

As a back-up also have scart from SKY box to LCD TV working fine for audio and sound.

The pain is swapping the optical cables all the time, I'm convinced the optical output is too weak on the Amstrad box, seems to have come up a few times on other forums. Sky won't replace it for me!

For optical cable system you can also buy a junction box with up to three inputs for your Sky and PS3. And an output for your home cinema system. Some of these boxes that come with power supplies would boost the optical sound signals. Online try Amazon.co.uk or for bricks and mortar Maplins. An additional optical cable may be required.
