I'm looking at buying a car that someone else bought up North a few months ago but never registered it here. Are there any pitfalls I should watch hour for? What will I need to register it myself?
Also the registration plate is worth about £300 stag according to one of them websites, does anybody have any experience in selling uk registrations from Ireland? Is it worth the effort?
    Cheers.

I think thr car needs to be taxed, and therefore mot 'd to transfer the no. That certainly was the way, if your car is not taxed, then it may be difficult.
Even though I have typed all this, I have a niggling feeling that that sifuation may have eased .
    Regards

It has an mot but I doubt it's taxed, that would take a chunk of the sale price right there.

If it's mot'd then you can tax it,sell the number and claim back the unused tax.
I have always been interested in numbers and the sale of same, somehow I think the selling of numbers has become easier, perhaps even proof of export might help. I do know that if you sell it ,the car has to get a new reg,but I somehow think the number dealers do all this.
Sounds a bit vaque and waffly this.

Let the owner of the car sell the plate and reduce the price by £300. I had an experience like this about three years ago where the seller claimed the reg was worth 'hundreds' so I asked him to reduce the price by 'hundreds'. In the end we split the 'hundreds' which wasn't really 'hundreds'!!

I ignore the 'reg plate is worth hundreds on its own' adverts because usually they aren't!

How long did it take to sell the plate w124man? Sounds like a lot of messing, I'll probably not bother.

    To rereg you'll need-
    V5.
Receipt ( you can write this yourself)
    MOT.
    Photo ID.
    PPS No..
    Proof of address.
    Car.
    €200.

Right just to complicate things, if the seller bought the car in the north six months ago and his name and address are written on the v5 but he never registered the car here would this cause me trouble when I go to register it?

Is it dated, if it's not he's ok, if it is, he can say he left it in the north until he could afford the VRT.
