The washing machine stopped working today. Went thru a cycle and stoppe half way through. There's still water left in it though. And all the lights still work but it just won't start.
Is there anything to check to try repair it myself?

The filter usually under the machine or at the back?

I agree. Check the filter. I had the same problem. It was caused by colour catcher sheets caught in the filter. Plumber told me they are the biggest cause of problems with washing machines.

    Hi

Just jumping on the back of this thread - I have a whirlpool washing machine that's starting acting up - stops mid-cycle. It will restart once I move the program dial on manually and completes the cycle

I had to move the washing machine recently to a new location - and the water feed now comes from a header tank where as it previously had a mains water feed. Can't imagine that would have anything to do with it?
Is there a software reset option on these things - seems like the programme dial has got its Knicks in a twist

Any help / pointers would be much appreciated

    Cheers

Mine stopped mid cycle last week also! It did this a couple years back and I got hotpoint to look at it. It was a filter going from the waste pipe that was blocked. When this would happen, some suds would come out the powder tray aswell. So this time I put in the model and problem into google and found a u tube clip of where the filter was. Found a few coins in there and machine going fine since:). So my advice is stick it into google before you get some guy out to look at it.
