I got pulled for speeding a couple of weeks ago on my way to work. The Garda told me I'd get a fine in the post, but didn't mention penalty points. Today I got a fine in the post, with no mention of points.
Is it possible that the Garda didn't mention points because he doesn't intend to apply any, or did he just forget to say it?
I've no objection to the points, I was breaking the limit, and therefore deserve them, but I'm just wondering if I'll be lucky enough to escape, or do the points only go on after you pay the fine?

Speeding equals points. By paying the fine, you accept the points. By going to court, you contest them. Pretty sure its written on the letter you use to pay the fine.

I didn't see it the first time I read it, that's why I asked here.
Just had another look, and it's written there.
