Tinnitus-Vertigo

Hello, my OH has Vertigo from time to time and Tinisus. She also has had brain scans because of the Veretigo but never actually got a diagnosis. I heard of a condition which relates to these symptom on the radio before but cannot remember it to my fustration.
However recently there is a noise like that of a faint 'electric shower' or a 'tumble dryer' sound in her head :(
Her regular doctor always maintained that after inspecting her ears there was nothing to see, for the past few years.
However she got a second opinion last week because of the recent noises as descibed above, because her regular doctor was unavailable and that doctor said she had a severe ear infection, actually went as far as to draw her a diagram of the ear to explain it to her, prescribed antibiotocs and told her to attend the Eye and Ear immediately.
Next morning she attended (loosing a days pay too) waited for over 4 hours only to be told that there was no infection. To add insult to injury the doctor was obnoxious and actually made a derogatory remark about her scalp, which is a psoriasis issue, needless to say she left the place in an awful state
    WTF..................help needed:(

Sorry to hear about your other half's issues. Unfortunately I can't be of much help, except to suggest that the disorder you mention is probably Meniere's Disease. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9ni%C3%A8re%27s_disease
Best of luck with finding a solution

I can't be of help either but I do think your OH should write a letter to the Eye and Ear complaining about this doctor. That behaviour is unacceptable. I would (if you don't know) go in to find out what his name is. If attention isn't drawn to this type of thing they just go on and on and then we get cases like Dr Michael Neary who still doesn't consider himself at fault. I know you have more pressing things to worry about at the moment and that other reply seems like a possibility.

OP I would recommend going to a GP and getting a referral to see a specialist (audiologist or vestibular specialist). The symptoms you describe are a little vague so it could be any of a number of conditions. Balance disorders tend to be diagnosed through exclusion a lot of the time. Has she been able to pinpoint a possible catalyst for the vertigo, such as turning over in the bed?

Since you say she has been for scans, I would strongly recommend getting that referral to the audiologist asap as they have more specialised equipment for diagnosing vestibular problems. In the mean time maybe get your OH to keep a little diary of onset times of vertigo (how long it lasts, how often it happens, etc.) and the same for any other issues she might be having (tinnitus, headaches). This can be very helpful for whomever will be examining.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. She is going private to visit a specialist soon.

I agree with bogmanfan, sounds like Menieres to me (I suffer from bouts occasionally). http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?con=481 along with the hearing issues (certain frequency sounds become really loud and everything else is exceptionally muffled - my ears feel like they are waterlogged, my balance is off and I get incredibly tired all of a sudden. Thinking can become "groggy or fuzzy" during a bout too. These symptoms happen with little warning. Reduction in tea and coffee and consuming less salt and minimising stress are supposed to help control bouts. My diagnosis was done in Swift Clinic Dundrum, they referred me to a specialist in Hermitage Clinic who did MRI etc and confirmed Menieres. It's a pain when it occurs but you learn to cope and hopefully the bouts are very far apart.
