I'm going to the States on a work trip later this week and am thinking of picking up a Tablet (maybe a Nexus 10) there and previous experience indicates that they are a fair bit cheaper over there. Apart from the charger any known issues with bringing tablets over from the states, ie; sim cards.

With a Wi/Fi only tablet you should have no issues.
If its a LTE or 3G one your looking for (you mentioned sim cards in your OP) they you could very well have a problem. You will need to check the spec of whatever model you are thinking of getting (it can vary not only from device but also model) and see if it functions on your carriers network.

Although I have a smartphone for work, it would be useful to get and read emails on the device. When travelling you can't always get free wifi.

In that case do a search to check what frequency bands your mobile carrier uses and when you are in the US check the specs.

The connecting cable will have the USA-style pins. You will require a very specific travel adapter to allow use with the 3-pin system in Ireland so you should enquire about this when purchasing.

    Don’t know about very specific...
Any travel adapter you pick up in the airport or elsewhere to change US to UK plugs will work. Doesn’t have to be anything specific, basically the opposite of what you would bring with you for plugging in your laptop, etc. Also assuming it is a branded tablet you will have no issue getting a genuine equivalent here on the likes of Amazon and assuming it has a USB type cable for charging you can use any wall-wart with the same power rating.
