    Hi all,
i've been saving up for quite a while with the intention of buying a gaming laptop. Right now i'm just deciding on whether i want a 17.3" or 15.6"

If i go for 17.3" i'm looking at an MSI GS70 stealth
    ( http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/20213503/msi-gaming-series-gs70-2od-stealth-061nl/details.aspx )
which looks to be the cream of the crop, and very light which is important for lugging it in and out of college

    If i go for a 15.6" i'm considering and ideapad Y510p
    ( http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/80011681/lenovo-ideapad-y-series-y510p-00303nl/details.aspx )

really just wondering if anybody out there has any experience with either of these laptops, obviously the GS70 is much better than the Y510, but considerably more expensive as well. Any suggestions as to alternatives are appreciated too. I had a look at the Razer Blade Pro which looks great but i feel overpriced when compared to the GS70, but if anyone owns one any feedback on the razer blade synapse UI would be great. Do you think it would be worth waiting till after christmas incase prices go down at all? are there any other laptops that can compete with these two? i'm willing to spend on the GS70 because i don't think i'd need to replace a laptop that powerful for a long time.

if anyone knows of any sales about to happen etc that would be great to know about!

    thanks for any help

    -f

I was in the same boat as yourself a few weeks ago looking for a good gaming laptop and had a good look at the MSI range, almost bought one but I ended up buying an Asus N series NF055 I think the model is form Komplett.

Excellent machine , I have no complaints on it. Delivery in 3 days from Komplett, i7 Processor I'll link it below.

I paid €940 , then it went up to €980 and it's back down now at €899. I use it for gaming FM14 , Starcraft , Sins , STO and it cuts through them like butter. Sound is great as standard and comes with a free sub-woofer to plug in which is small and compact. It's lightweight m lovely alliminium feel to the cover, backlit Asus symbol on rear and lovely backlit keyboard.

I'm going to ++ recommend this one. The MSI is probably slightly higher spec but this is a great gaming laptop at a great price. Asus are gaining on Dell and MSI IMO.

    http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/MSI_GE70_4th_Gen_Core_7_8GB_1TB_7200rpm_17.3_inch_Full_HD_Windows8_Gaming_L_GE70_2OE-238UK/version.asp

This is worth a look for you . It has everything you want it's thin and light . It has a decent gpu gtx 765 and a good CPU core i7 4700m . 1 tb of disk space and it comes with a 2 year warranty .

hi guys thanks for the replies, i've actually decided that 17" is just too big to be bringing into college with me, i had a look at the laptops you guys suggested thanks.

the MSI is 17" so i'm gonna rule that out, and the ASUS seems good, but i've just been looking at the Gigabyte p35k, ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-007-GI ) and the fact that it has the ultrabay for swapping an optical drive for additional HDD storage is a huge draw. it's also been getting really good reviews, and although it is a bit more expensive i'm okay with splashing out

also, the dell xps 15 has just been suggested to me as a cheaper alternative if i end up burning my cash this Christmas ( http://www.dell.com/ie/p/xps-15-9530/pd )

if anyone has any experience of the P35K (or XPS15) i'd appreciate your thoughts on it as i will probably be getting it after Christmas, possibly before!

    thanks,

The gigabyte is fairly pricey I would maybe suggest a look at the laptops by PC specialist to see if you could get something abit cheaper . I'm suggesting PC specialist because their laptops are based on Clevo barebones and you could mail them and ask then about future graphics card upgrades on their 15" line up .

There are pretty good prices on the Alienware range now.
    Alienware 14 is e1149 with 1080p, i7 4700, killer wireless,
Although the card is gt750, the laptop is normally 1400+
I nearly took the plunge myself the otherday, been hoping for a discount coupon to pop up somewhere :)

How would the likes of CoD play on the Asus?
