standard sms comes out of your price plan sms allocation.

That's grand, I'll just reset cabbage as the default messaging app.

    Thanks a lot

No it doesn't come out of your SMS allowance, Google hangouts works over Data.

The app was updated recently to use sms.

I'm on an unlimited plan with both texts & data so it's of no difference to me.

I thought I remembered reading that you could use hangouts on a browser too, and continue conversations? Is this still the case does anyone know?

I think you can use hangouts from the Gmail page, down the bottom left there is the hangouts section. Your conversations should be there.

This will only show your Hangouts conversations, not your SMS conversations.

Yes it will only show hangout messages on the web - no SMS integration. I also dont like the way the app on the phone splits the threads from the same contact i.e. if you sms someone and then you send a message via Hangouts later then they are in two seperate threads so its hard to track your conversation. Maybe they will fix that. Also would like to see it choose the best service depending on your connection and how the recipient is connected. hate to say it but a certain messaging app on the iPhone will do this seamlessly where it switches between SMS and message depending on conditions.

I am liking the look of this app however and hope that it will tie all the services together soon - give it a look its cool

I like the way they are seperate. I don't want to be confused by which I sent by sms or by hangouts. Imo I think it is better seperate.

So hard to track a conversation that way - I think its a little all over the place yet and will take a while to get really good. For example - I have a conversation going with someone via sms during the day and then when I get home I can continue via Hangout. Having to switch threads to see the full conversation is a bummer. It also doesn't even have the smarts to realise that the person is the same contact so I get two threads and two different contact photos which is bad IMO
I think having a little coloured icon or 'delivered by xxx' would be the way to go or even different coloured bubbles depending on the platform you are using to message
I would also like to see some desktop integration (like Mighttext or similar apps) so I can at least see that someone has sent me a message without having to look at the phone
