    Hi all,

I'm visiting some friends in the states over Christmas and I'd like to be able to use one of their cars while I'm there.

Is it possible to be added to their insurance policy for a short period of time, anyone done it before?

I'll add that I have an up to date American driving license for the state I'll be driving in, I got a 10 year license when I was living there last year but my address on the license is now no longer valid as I've returned to Ireland.

    Can I still use it?

    Thanks :)

It shouldnt be a problem, but it might depend on the state.

My insurance will cover casual use for family who aren't named on the policy, others might not.

They should probably call and check, also it might help if you had your own travel/personal liability insurance.

I'll ask them to check, I'll have my own travell insurance arranged.

we added my sister to my car with no issues - just called up our insurance company, provided them a copy of her drivers license and she was on the certificate within 10 minutes

Excellent, thank you. Was there any charge to add her to the policy?

Usually there is no charge for adding "casual" users who will drive the car less than 10 or 15% of the time.
