I thought it would be a good idea to have a beer tasting. Looks like it'll take a bit of planning.

There will be 8 people. I was thinking 5 main beers and maybe a few random tasters of some 75cl beers.

What beers would be good and how much would be needed?

I was thinking at least a bottle a person with a supply of local beer for drinking.

For the tasting I'd like to start light and get darker as It goes. Maybe include an Irish stout. Most of the people at it won't be Irish.

If you really want to do a true beer tasting, I would recommend less then a bottle per person, just so people won't get stuck with something that they don't like and you could then offer a greater range. Small servings might also stop people from getting drunk enough that they may not be able to really taste the later beers that you serve. Going from light beers to dark ones is also a good plan, no point in killing everyone's taste buds starting with a super hoppy IPA or an imperial stout. It might also be an idea to serve some water in between different beers, just so the taste of one beer doesn't ruin the taste of he next.

Since most of the people that will be attending won't be Irish, it would be a great chance to show off the best of the Irish craft scene. Might be worth checking out O' Hara's IPA and Stout, Galway Bay's Full Sale IPA, Black's Kinsale Pale Ale, Fransican Well's Rebel Red, Trouble Brewing's Dark Arts Porter and Dungravin's Coffee and Oatmeal Stout (which should be made available in the next week or so).
