I thought it would be interesting to have a thread about peoples experiences with having their pride and joys stolen in this country, if it's not too a bitter experience to relive it.

Nothing specific to give away personal details, just how the criminals are doing things these days, what happens the cars/parts, how do the Gardaí handle it, what problems do you run into with insurance companies?

Also, what kind of cars are being stolen and would you be put off by owning certain cars again?

To add to that, what can be done to minimise damage/theft of your car/home and what can be done to maximise recovery if the worst were to happen?

Well lucky I have had no problems here, but as seen with the Datsun 270 2 weeks ago; some criminals a definitely using sites like done deal to scope out potential cars to steal.
