I'm just after receiving my Provisional License recently and will probably start looking for lessons soon, I'm hoping to get insurance under my parents name, although the car I want to drive is an Audi A4 1.9TDI (Sport?)

This car has been classed as a 'boy-racers car' by some insurance companies, if you're under the age of 25, which I am, they will not insure you on it.

Does anyone know of any Insurance Company that'll insure me with this car?

Thanks for any replies, Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section... New to this place :P

Diesel Audi A4 is not a sports car in any way, but that's how the insurance companies see it and unfortunately there is nothing you can do to change their mind. Anyway, I've been in this situation before and I sent you a PM, since I had my posts removed here before because suggestions apparently are not allowed on the forum.

Is there a second car in the household?

I tried to get insured on a BMW 320D for a long time, eventually giving up, and had to look to sell it. Definitely not considered a boy-racer car. Just a normal diesel.
Plain and simple, the car is too powerful, and I would agree with the insurance company. I'm only 20, and only have my permit about 3 or 4 months. Could easily lose control of such a powerful car if you're only starting to drive. Better off starting small, and once you've a full license, and a little NCB, go for something bigger.
OP, do you have any money saved up for a car? Or would your parents spring for a cheap one? I've seen a few floating on DD for <€300 with NCT until early next year. Might be worth picking up one. Insurance will be dirt cheap as a named driver for that, and if you'll probably be able to make €200 odd back when you sell it off.
Not the most practical route, but something to consider.
It's still worth asking a few insurance companies to see if they'll allow it. In my BMW, Aviva were the only ones who would actually take me, and their quote was actually decent. Worth checking them out.

I still don't understand how insurance companies get it in to their heads that a relatively new, easy to handle, safe, good quality and reasonably powered car can be unfavourable to them to make a profit on the policy compared to a +10 year old banger that may have an NCT cert on the window but eats tyres like a cow eats grass and has safety features that are at least five years outdated.

Wouldn't it bring a tear to your eyes when insurance companies try to tell the public that they don't make money on car insurance. Let me tell you a big secret; they wouldn't be offering car insurance if they didn't make money it.
