    Hi all,
Given the scale of the current disaster in the Phillipines, especially when it comes to the provision of clean water, what do you guys do to treat water or preserve it?
    regards

Re. the Phillipines, they are reduced to drinking from stagnant water and other highly unsafe sources. The easiest way to stay ahead of this issue is to have a clean supply laid on in preparation. To put it in an Irish context, how long would it be before the council could get water to you? Do you have containers to collect the water in?

Having a ready supply already stored will make life much less stressful and reduce health risks. At a conservative estimate, 10L per family of four per day is a minimum for survival. 20L/day would see you cover washing and cooking needs easily.

But if you can't lay on a supply for whatever reason then you need to access water that can be purified suitible for human consumption. Water filters (and everyone has a different favourite depending on budget, search camping/hiking water filters) if you're on the move are the best solution, but boiling is always recommended to remove many (but not all) of the nasties. Bleach can also be used in minimal quantities to clean water of the nasties, amounts will vary for volume.

    But remember:

The Rule of 3’s for Survival is this

    3 minutes without air
    3 hours without shelter
    3 days without water
    3 weeks without food
    3 months without hope

I've got water purification tablets, a life straw and I can boil water obviously!
