    Hi

I'm upgrading my 1940s terraced house.

It has 5 windows and 2 doors which I am replacing. I am going to insulate external walls (inside). Which should I do first ?

    Thanks

What type of insulation are you thinking of doing.

    Insulated plasterboard.

Depends, single glazed? Old double glazed? Draughty doors? How thick are the walls?

You only need to really insulate the front and rear walls if its terraced, so it shouldnt be a massive job.

Whats your draught proofing like? Open fires not used? Attic insulated very well?

Draught proofing & Attic insulation (300mm) is the best bang for buck.

WIndows and doors will add value to your house that the plasterboard will not, so think about the long term, whether this house is for a few years or for life.

If you're asking from a sequencing point of view rather than payback, then I'd get the windows and doors first and the walls done afterwards. The 2 times we got the doors/windows changed we weren't completely happy with how the job was finished around the openings. Having a plasterer come through afterwards to dryline the external walls, means they can also nicefy any slap and dash around the windows.

Same as building a house..Windows first then insulated boards

propper energy effiecent windows in 1st then internally insulate and skim interior . leave protective plastic film on window frames and panes of glass till plasterers are finished .
