    Hi guys
    I cant get the grasp of an issue with photoshop.
    Say I have a white background and the photo has white on the edging. when i got to use quick selection it seems to skip the white item and go to the nearest colour meaning I have to back track it
    Is there anyway i can stop the tool doing this say change it to like when it sees orange it will skip it ?

    I'm not quite understanding you, can you show an example?

    Regarding the colour thing you could use the tool on one of the colour channels where orange appears black, the red one for example.

    Yes there is, its difficult to explain but there should be a toolbar at the top with the following..

    'Tolerance, Anti Alias, Contiguous, Sample all Layers'......these control the selections of the 'Quick Selection' tool.

    Plenty of tutorials on youtube which is your best bet, try here...

    You could try use Photoshop's calculations opition. Calculations provide an easy way to create a solid starting-point for the mask.

    Image -> Calculations

    Begin by selecting the Red channel for the Source 1. And the Blue channel for Source 2. Tick the Invert box for the Blue channel and set the blending to Vivid Light. This will yield a high contrast selection with the outlines clearly visible.
