Just bought other half a Nikon D3100. So wondering what accessories to buy her next with the C*******as (don't want to say the word ) coming up ?
I have to say I have no interest in Photography and this is her 1st DSLR so please no tech jargon when giving suggestions. Keep it simple also if you could suggest where to purchase online or bricks and mortar in around the Dublin area.
    Thanks

A decent external flash is always really the next thing to the camera.

Yongnuo YN-560 is very highly rated despite the budget price, see reviews for yourself. ( ebay)

A 50 MM lens is also a great addition, the 1.8 version for nikon is popular and good for beginner. http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/Nikon/Nikon-SLR-Lenses

A Good tripod is worth having.

Here is a list of very good shops in the Dublin area
    www.berminghamcameras.ie
    www.connscameras.ie
    www.johngunn.ie

The other must have is a battery grip: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/nikon-d3100-battery-grip

Can someone explain the need for a battery grip ?? I understand it takes additional batteries, therefore saving time changing battery, but are there other advantages, as changing the battery is such a simple job !!

Longer battery life as you have 2 of them
More comfortable to shoot vertically as you have all the main controls on the grip.
    Better balance of the camera
    Possibility to use AA batteries
    Looks cool :D

I would always recommend Conns cameras for equipment.
i would really need to know what type of photography she is interested in to give you bet gift gift ideas.

Allot of good gift ideas given above but some of them would be lost on her if she was only into one type of photography.

Conns I have found more often than not more expensive than other camera shops in Dublin.

Having said that I did buy a new lens and a big stopper in there last week as they were the cheapest for them.

    As always shop around.

As previously mentioned OP, a spare battery and a bag would be high on the list.

    Get this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Rapid-RS-7-Camera-Strap/dp/B002WR7VSS

very comfortable and you are free to take a pic in a split second. no messing with straps.

    I'd make 2 simple suggestions.

    1. A UV filter to protect the lens.
This is essential as a scratch on the lens's glass will render it useless.
A 52mm filter will fit the kit lens and are quite cheap, around €20.

    2. I find a wrist strap much better than the neck strap that comes with the camera. I have this one, again its cheap but very robust. http://www.amazon.co.uk/OP-TECH-SLR-Wrist-Strap/dp/B00137NMMW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384789951&sr=1-2&keywords=wrist+strap+for+camera

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have decided to go with the UV Filter, spare battery and tripod.
