Aging CPU, What are My Options?

I'm currently running a system with quite and old CPU/Mobo combination and was wondering what will be the best way to upgrade

Here's what i have

CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 435 (AM3)

Mobo - MSI 770-C45

RAM - 8gb GEIL PC3-10700H, CL9-9-9 DDR3-1600

Graphics - EAH 6850 Direct CU 1gb DDR5

PSU - OCZ ZS 650w

The CPU is pretty poor these days so how can i upgrade it without having to spend loads?

Can i just get a new, better cpu or will i have to get a mobo too?

My mobo doesn't support AM3+ afaik.

None of the options for the CPU + the mobo i already have seem to be that great.

What's a good CPU + Mobo upgrade i could get for around €150?

If your board supports 125w cpus, a phenom x4 965 is a good option and costs about 60 euro, will give you a good boost. You'd really be looking at a new card as well as the 6850 is very dated...

Graphics card is fine, it's not really a gaming rig apart from a few older titles.

I was looking at SSDs there (Crucial M500 240gb)

My mobo only supports Sata 2 - 3Gb/s so i take it that means an SSD will be a good bit slower on my system than it would be on a 6Gb/s sata mobo? it would still be a fairly big speed increase on a normal mechanical drive though i presume. I might get an SSD now then upgrade the CPU/Mobo in a few weeks instead. My hard drive is really chugging. Seems to be at 100% disk usage in task manager and awful lot.

Yes, the SSD will make a big difference even on the 3 Gb/s sata connection.

Will go for a Samsung 840 EVO Series or Crucial M500, are there any better ones out for similar price at the mo?

Lots of people asking the same thing lately. Samsung Evo and Crucial m500 are pretty much the top two choices for personal (non-server) builds at the moment. Can't really go wrong with either one.

My impression is that the Samsung is somewhat faster, and the m500 has better provisions for avoiding data loss on power failure. Plenty of reviews on the usual sites if you want to dig into details.

Do you mean the processor is at 100% usage a lot, not saying don't upgrade (we all like new things) but there may be other reasons for your system being slow. Might have a virus of some sort if your processor is on the go constantly. I know once or twice when I'd trouble with an older system a clean re-install of everything gave it a new lease of life.

No, i definitely mean disk usage (performance tab on task manager)

I don't have a virus, cpu usage rarely gets too high on my system.

Windows 7? There's no disk usage information in the performance tab when I look at task manager. Or do you mean resource monitor? (which can be launched from the performance tab).
