Bargain basement chainset replacement options

It never rains but it pours.

After careful re-examination of the chainset on my commuter it looks as if the teeth are getting pretty warn which is probably the cause of my fix proof chain skipping problem (new chain, no sprockets, RD hanger is eye-straight).

So wiggle/Evans/CRC don't seem to have the bargain basement chainset - Shimano Tourney in stock and I'm left wondering if I can replace the chain rings without a whole crankset or what alternatives are out there, new or second hand.

Edit: I should say it's an 8 spd.

Would it not be cheaper to buy new chainrings instead of a whole new chainset?

That was one of my questions. But everything on wiggle seems to be 9spd e.g. deore

What size are the rings? You said 8 speed but didn't mention if they are double, compact or triple, what the ratios are, etc.

His commuter is a hybrid frame which has a mountain bike triple anyway, I think.
