hey guys just got hold of a raspberry pi, and have heard that when setup correct it handles xbmc pretty good including 1080, so my question is does anyone have a nice setup that they could possibly share?

ive ben looking at openelec, loading with sd card and storring with a usb stick, but thesetup seemsa bit confusing, any help would be great!
    thanks in advance!

Yeah, I'm running openelec on the Pi, with a 32Gb SD card. I drop content onto it from my laptop, simply mapping a drive and using Windows drag and drop. I always delete stuff after watching it to ensure I don't run out of storage.

I did have some issues with the SD card - the initial setup was a little tricky and only for the fact that I am generally quite comfortable with Linux and drives/partitions, I was able to sort it.

Anyway, it's hooked up to the 42" tv at the moment, with my Android tablet acting as a remote control. Highly recommended. Fire away with the questions. :)

excellent, sounds like a great setup, i have a 16gb sd i can use ,do you use a usb stick too? i hear it takes the stress off the pi, not to familiar with linux though, i just want the best setup to watch and stream some movies with xbmc, i was looking at noob friendly giude which sounds pretty straight forward but i want it to work well! so i supose my first question would be where to start in terms of setting it up,i have the latst openelec down but im sure its not as simple as extracting it to the sd! also do you have yours overclocked?

    Hi There,

I have a rasberry pi with rasbmc on it connected to my 42" TV. Have a NAS stored in the attic, connected via homeplugs. Streaming movies & TV shows. Have the Yatse remote app going on the Samsung Galaxy S2 to control pi. Im happy with this sort of setup, i guess its about getting the setup that fits for you!

Fantastic Little setup considering the money :)

Simple instructions are given on the Openelec site and are dependent on the OS you are using to do the set up.

I have openec running on a HTP with tuner cards, and a Pi in another room using the HTPC as a back end & server etc.

    All work well.

Been using the RPi with OpenELEC for a while.
You're right, there are no actual image files on the OpenELEC site bizzarely, only source which can be compiled on a Linux machine.

However, thanks to the internet, pre-compiled images suitable for Windows and disk imager can be downloaded here:
    http://openelec.thestateofme.com/official_images/
Download the most recent (currently 3.2.3), unzip and flash using win32diskimager. Insert into Raspberry Pi , plug in keyboard for initial setup and all should work!

Another useful piece of software is SD Card Formatter, if ever you want to reuse your SD card as it's partitioned automatically by OpenELEC.

    Hope this helps.

I realise the problem has been resolved but here is further info for anyone else reading.

The installation instructions are linked to in a file called "Installation" which is within the downloaded compressed file (http://openelec.tv/get-openelec/download/viewdownload/10/251).

    http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Installation

Here is the one for doing the set up of a R-Pi from within Windows

    http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Installing_OpenELEC_on_Raspberry_Pi#tab=Windows

Personally I prefer to use the official files and not some third party file about which I know little.

Learning curve is steep with the RPi all right, I found all the info is generally available but spread around the web a bit!

Once you've created the SD card, if you insert it into your PC card reader the 'config.txt' file will be visible in the root folder. If there is not one there you can create it here.
There's some general info on the settings available here:
    http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

There's a good general 'config.txt' available here, well commented, I used it as the basis for mine:
    https://raw.github.com/Evilpaul/RPi-config/master/config.txt

For overclocking I've used 'Medium' settings with no problems on a RPi for extended periods.

The 'config.txt' gives you a place to input MPEG2 and VC1 decoder licences, if you've purchased them. I needed MPEG2 licence as I use RPi with TV back-end to watch TV.

A comprehensive How-To on the licencing of MPEG-2 & VC1 and how to get and apply them.

    http://www.howtogeek.com/137654/how-to-add-mpeg-2-and-vc-1-video-codec-support-to-your-raspberry-pi/

(I found it went into things I did not want to read, but it should be useful for others who need/want the info)
