Is it the original model (97-00) or the one with the gloopy headlights (00-06) ?

97-00 is straightforward enough, you'll need a loom adaptor and a facia adaptor

00 facelift onwards is a bit more complex as they have multiplex wiring and you need to run a feed from the cig lighter

Steering controls won't work with a lidl radio or the vast majority of aftermarket radios.

Handiest but expensive place is halfords, you'd spend the price of the stereo on those two items.
Ebay your best bet if you're not in a hurry.

I had a 00 and from memory it uses a standard size stereo. Later ones need an adaptor but I reckon the 00 pre facelift doesn't. You'll still need an ISO wiring adaptor though.

I put in a JVC that I got in Argos into my 02 xsara about a year ago. Just slotted straight in although it s a tiny bit smaller than the original so there s a gap of approx 3 mm.
Obviously the steering wheel control no longer works and the LCD display just reverts to time& date and wont display station.
Other than that no problem though.
