    Hey

    Any advise help greatly appreciated

In USA at the min. Moving home in 6 weeks. Was considering buying a laptop before I go. I'll def need one when I get home and I thought it might be a good idea to try take advantage of the black friday deals here.

I was looking at the following one in best buy -
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-15-6-laptop-8gb-memory-750gb-hard-drive-natural-silver/2374042.p?id=1219072222935&skuId=2374042

Its going to be $500 thursday week, which seems v good value. Anyone have similar HP's, are they good (I've only ever had a Dell)

Q's - Is there any major issues with buying a laptop for use in Ireland?
Is there better value to be had in Ireland at the minute?
Is this a decent laptop or should I go higher spec (I could accept going to $750) I'll be using it for everyday surfing, email, running ms office and possibly some app development.

    Thanks

YOU ,d have to get an 220v to usa power adaptor,
as the electricty supply in the usa, ireland is completely different,
its same as the uk supply ,220volts.
    usa is 120 volts.

    http://www.accessorystore.co.uk/acatalog/50VA_Step-Down_Transformer_2_3_pin.html
    COST 26 euro s approx.

    hold onto gaurantee ,reciept,

AS customs might charge you duty on it,
    if its over x amount,
    I dont know the limit.

even the usa plugs are a different shape to irish plugs.

thats why we can buy any thing in the uk,

    http://goireland.about.com/od/preparingyourtrip/qt/ireland_customs.htm
    or other goods
goods to the maximum value of € 430 euros per adult

WE use the same plugs, and power system.

You might be charged customs duty on the laptop,

I don,t know how strict they are.

Just about every laptop comes with a universal power supply meaning you can use it anywhere in the world. Plug adaptors for US to UK/Irish plug are really cheap (2.99 ish) or pick up a replacement cable in a computer shop for 5 to 10 euro. Only real nuisance is the lack of euro symbol on keyboard and " @ symbols in the wrong place.

Buy laptop and laptop bag - use laptop and carry on plane. Highly unlikely you will get asked to prove where, when and how much you paid for your carry on laptop! Same as that smartphone, camera, watch etc. in your carry on.

As far as quality goes that HP is just fine but check out what you can get in your local Best Buys instore stock and check other stores nearby. Sometimes there are very good specials going and see if you can get a feel of the machine you want to buy. I changed my mind to a HP from a Toshiba after comparing the actual feel of the machines in a Best Buy. Spec is only part of it, you need something you like the feel and look of also or you will get very fed up with your machine. Don't ignore other retailers especially around Black Friday - some will have weekend specials going which you may have some chance of getting unlike the Walmart limited availability specials in the middle of the night.

    Thanks very much for that

I'll finely be taking it out of the box for the trip home anyway.
