According to the article here "We are still gathering as many facts as we can".

I am not sure how one can suddenly decide to just open a door of the plane whilst in the air, and try to exit the plane, without a prior plan in place.

Awaiting investigation into the story behind the person involved.

    Interesting one,
    Thanks for sharing,

Completely agree! It's not something that tends to just happen. Strange one...I'm sure more facts will start coming out in the next day or two.

didn't a guy commit suicide by jumping out of a helicopter recently in California?

could be a copycat suicide, i guess.

Weird, those old Piper doors dont open by accident...also his initial mayday was weird, why didnt he use his callsign?

That's what I thought, he seemed remarkably calm for somebody he must have known had a high chance of dying.

Is there a piece missing from the start of the audio?

The ATCO used the call sign after they recovered from the shock of the mayday call.
So either there is a piece missing or it was the only aircraft on frequency at the time.

It will be interesting to find out what the story is.

On one hand, it could be a case of an unstable passenger. Speculation could go as far to say as the passenger planning such an event and renting the plane. Though that is very much speculation.

Another point is about how calm the pilot is, well I would have to say I expected that. You can have people who turn into robots (in a very positive way) when bad situations arise and they take it into a remarkably logical one. The Hudson pilot is a perfect example of this.

Time shall tell anyway, I do hope it is something weird and no one was actually hurt.

When I heard this story I couldn't help but remember this one too... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-93990/SAS-veteran-5-000ft-suicide-leap-plane.html

    Bizarre.
