    Any pictures of it?
Anything that would set it apart from all the other 520 d's on the road? Any scratches/body work damage

Sadly the story featured the same pi$$ poor description as usual, no colour, no picture of similar car, nothing.

Throw up some pics, or at least of a similar spec/coloured one. Any marks etc or unique items about the car.

Sorry to hear and hope your mother gets sorted out.

Sorry, no pics, it's a very dark silver, almost anthracite, black walnut dash, beige interior, no distinctive marks or previous damage.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

In the case of the M5 there wouldn't be much point. Their is no doubt the car is hidden somewhere, to be used as a high speed getaway car in the near future and burnt afterwards.

If the house was burgled this is the most likely story.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if their is another "gang" shooting either tonight or tomorrow, with the getaway car being a Silver/Grey 5 Series.

No one is going to bad an eyelid at a dark coloured, new model BMW, and it has enough power to get away from the scene at a decent pace.

Car used in this - http://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/man-shot-in-face-outside-dublin-pub-was-convicted-drug-dealer-1.1559579 was a Dark Grey 3 Series. Nothing special but stolen specifically for the task.

OP - was anything else taken? If it was just for the car, I really wouldn't want to find the people who did it.

I think it's time to invest in tracking systems.

Yep, they took an Xbox360, PS3, IPad2, new car stereo in box, blackberry, also took spare keys for two other cars. Bit if a nightmare really.

But if everyone who read the story was told the colour they would be alert to any suspicious blue M5 2007 shape that they spot acting suspicious, will be less than a handful of such cars in the whole country. Also helps people at the ports spotting it being exported.

    Shower of *****!
Long shot, but can you track a blackberry, the same way you do with iPhones by any chance? If not, you might still be able to track your iPad? Worth looking into. I remember a friend had her iPhone stolen and tracked it down, confronted the person, (well, actually confronted several incorrect people, before getting the right one) and they ended up getting it back.
If you have no way of tracking it, I think you can block the iPad via iTunes, which will at least make it worthless to them.
