Apologies if this is a stupid question.

I'm starting a new job later next month and I have to give a month's notice. I'm starting in the new place on a Monday so would be finishing up in my current place on the Friday before.

What I was wondering is, will this leave me unemployed (and therefore unpaid) for the Saturday and Sunday, or what is the normal way of working out pay? We're paid monthly, so will my final monthly balance be calculated by my leaving date, or by the last working day of my leaving date? So, if I'm starting in the new place on 16th December, am I better off handing in my notice on 15th November (even though the last day I'll be working is Friday, 13th December)?

    Thanks!

    What???

Do you normally work Saturday or Sunday? Because if not then it is irrelevant. If you work Monday to Friday and get paid monthly you only get paid for working days i.e Monday through to Friday each month. Some months will have 21 paid days others 22 or 23 but you get paid the same each month and it all balances out in the end.

So if you want to finish on Dec 13th and have to give 1 month notice you should have handed in your notice on the 12th or 13th December.
