Fed up with the how long the posts are lasting.
Thinking of getting a large container to put burned oil and diesel in and dip seasoned posts in for 24 hrs.
Would i be wasting my time , has anyone tryed something similar.

Have you tried the IS436 posts or creasoted posts from PDM... Both should last 15-25yrs respectively

I have an old steel barrel, one of the 45 gallon ones, and keep it about half full with a mixture of creosote and oil drained from tractor, jeep and car engines. I try and keep the barrel full of posts, this means that about 3 foot of the post is in the mixture. Some would be there a couple of months before they get used. You need a draining rack to collect the run off when you take them out. The mixture will enter any drying cracks in the timber, but does not penetrate very far anywhere else. I have often thought about making up a boiler type vessel to get the oil up near boiling point, with a fire lit under it, but so far haven't found a suitable container. Something like 30 inch diametersteel gas piping with a 3/4 inch thick plate welded to the bottom perhaps.

Its a messy business handling them when putting them up as well.

Nothing beats a cut down ESB pole for strainer posts. Boiled in tar. Although there is a lake near us where the ESB used to dump their poles before use, I think they were supposed to absorb some mineral from the water?

I spent last Summer cre - suiting at home, I used 2 jars of crekote to 1 jar of waste oil. At the time I taught it was the best way to do it, it will last up to two years, espescially because of the dry weather. Anyway, after my few weeks of hell. I was talking to a genious farmer, he was saying to make it last 3 years, do 2/3 crekote to 1/3 Silage pit paint! He says it works like a charm. Thats what ill be doing next year!! :)
