Usually takes up to two weeks to get one back from Shannon ime.

If you get stopped by the gardai, then unless you've a receipt you'll have to explain why the car is not taxed and hope they take you on your word.

It takes about 2 weeks on average so you should have it by the end of next week. I hate to sound like a prick but the simple reality is if you don't want the possibility of dealing with the guards, then don't drive. Now having said that, I've been there before and went through a checkpoint where I informed the guard I had bought it 3 days previous. He waved me on and I heard nothing further.

Carry all your documents with you in car
You will be charged motor tax from the 1st of the month so enjoy car. Just avoid parking where there is traffic warden's.

Its not your fault the change of ownership process is slow and flawed. Most garda will understand and even if you meet a difficult one the judge will dismiss summons as by then you will have taxed it.

Of course this is my opinion I can't guarantee what our loopy judges will do.

Lucky you, I bought a car next day drove into check point got a fine for not displaying tax disc, tried to explain she would not listen.
Make matters worse a while afterwards, the local 'five 0' called to the house saying I never paid my fine which I did. I told them I sent it down in post, they went away never heard anything since and that was a good few years ago.
