With the horrible disaster that had happened in the Philippines will we see any commercial airlines offer their service in the transportation of Aid ? I know they are in desperate need of aid both food and medical at the moment and if i recall both Aer Lingus and BA (among others) flew to Haiti after the disaster there carrying aid.

Will EI BA or any other airlines who are affiliated with international charities offer their assistance ??

Cebu Pacific and Air Asia have been shuttling in persons working for humanitarian aid agencies in to airports near the worst affected areas. The situation is really deteriorating over there at the moment, Aer Lingus sent an A330 plane to Port au Prince in Haiti before which carried enough fuel to depart afterwards to Orlando afaik. They could do something via Abu Dhabi this time considering their contacts with Etihad.

BA are sending one of their B747-800 freighter aircraft from Stansted via Copenhagen on behalf of UNICEF and OXFAM to help in the relief operation.

Oh really? Didnt hear anything about that! I wonder if EI will do something similar? I know they have close ties with UNICEF, I expect cabin crew will be doing collections on flights soon but I wonder will there be anything like there was for the Haiti disaster

Back in 1984 during the Ethiopian famine Aer Turas did sterling work with their CL-44 flying relief supplies in the form of medical supplies, food and even a number of jeeps to Ethiopia. EI-BGO seen here off loading in Addis Abbaba.

Saw an internal BA staff video today that mentioned that BA were operating a relief flight....routing via Denmark to pick up supplies.

Yes a freight airline that started in 1962 with a Dragon Rapide moving on to DC-3, DC-4s, DC-7s, Bristol Freighters, Britannias,CL-44s DC-8s and even an Argosy, quite a selection. Great Days. Attached are 2 more photos of BGO off loading in Addis and 1 of the RR Tynes over Sudan.

Aer Lingus are sending the A330 to Dubai with 40 tonnes of aid from GOAL for the Philippines. Not sure if it will refuel in Dubai and continue on to the Philippines or if it will unload there as part of the greater aid effort.

Do EI cover the cost of this? I assume so!! So how does it work? Do crew volunteer to work this flight ?

The wording of it implies that another carrier will forward the aid from DXB to the Philippines.

Crew volunteer for it. They fly out and unload in Dubai then return to Ireland. Another EI crew is flying out the day before with I presume Emirates or Etihad, they're job is to man the return flight so that the EI crew and pilots on the way out can get their legal rest periods on the immediate return leg
