So I was just drawing the curtains and tucking them behind the rads to get more heat into the roon when the OH startled me and explained that this was pure rubbish and that the curtains would rip.
Who is right I mean why let all that expensive heat up behind the curtaibs?

    How would the curtains rip?
I'd do the same, if I had a heater under a window. As to why the majority of heaters are below windows i don't know.

If you have to tuck the curtain behind the radiator then you are already wasting resources as your curtains are too long.

Its creates a layer of warm air in front of the window, and helps to hold back the cool air from the window.

This effect is far more evident in single glazing, some double glazing rather than the new triple glazed options etc.

I thought this was going to be about some weird sexual practice.

You're just not trying any more Lando.

You could also put tinfoil behind the rads OP it would stop the heat from the rads escaping through the walls and reflect it back into the room giving you more heat in the room

Wrapping yourselves in the curtains is probably the most efficient use for them.

I rather no curtains at all, I think it looks way better.

As for tucking the curtains in, wouldn't it be like scraping your lad with a Brillo pad??

What I do is stuff the curtains onto the windowsill instead of tucking them behind the curtain. This seals off the window behind the curtains.

Oh, to have underfloor heating throughout the whole house so this wouldn't even be a problem...

Just attach hot water bottles to your feet.

    Sorted.

Warm air raises from radiator and hits the cold air front of window. This causes the warm air "tumble" and swirl. In effect causing circulation of warm air in the room. Another common reason for rads under windows is a space issue. No furniture will be there so wall space freed up.

Lando, have her indoors trim her curtains.

And when she's finished she should shorten the drapes as well.

It's far from curtains we were raised so it was.

The reason for heaters below windows dates back to the days of those huge cast iron church style rads. These were floor mounted on gun barrel piping and the curtains closed behind the rads. Nowadays most rads are wall mounted, leaving no room for curtains.

This is BS. The ideal place for a dressing table is in front of the window. Rads are rarely placed under the window in kitchens or bathrooms.

How exactly would you tuck your curtains behind the curtain? Should I consult urbandictionary.com for details of some unusual practice?

I meant the radiator. I am sincerely sorry if my post offended your sensibilities in any way. You have my guarantees that a mistake such as that will not occur again. From now on I will get somebody to proof read all my posts in advance.

    Again my sincerest apologies.

    Kindest regards,
    Tim.
