Ok..here's a good one. Went to two well known shops today to try out the taylormade rocket blade tour irons. Im thinking of buying a slightly more forgiving club than my current forged callaway razrx. Anyway the stats could,nt have been more different..after warming up i hit approx 30 balls in each shop using a 7i fitted with stiff KBS Tour shaft.

1st shop fitted me for KBS tour Stiff shaft. .5inch longer. Standard loft lie..my swing speed was generally between 79-81, i was hitting a 7i around 166 to 172yards.

2nd shop fitted me for Project x 5.0 - 5.5. Standard length,2degrees upright! Same swing speed and i was only hitting the ball 150yards.

Both shops used different techniques for measuring shaft length. 1st measured my wrist to the floor which was 36". The 2nd shop measured the distance between the floor and my knuckles when the hand was closed to make a fist. How is there no industry standard for fitting?

    so im confused as fcuk.

that's quite worrying actually, very worrying.
you're going to be spending a good few quid so obviously want to get this right.
Club length should at least be a common factor in both fittings !!

Did you ask what devices they used for measuring the club head speed etc? Its unlikely that a shop is using Trackman or Flightscope.
I know its more money but perhaps take a trip to Foregolf or Birr?

I wouldn't believe those yardages from the first reading anyway, my 6 iron swing speed is around 90 mph and 170 yards with a 6 iron would be a monster hit and an outlier in terms of averages.
Interesting though that the two shops gave such different set ups which implies can either of them be trusted.

Yeh definitely agree with you. Id normally hit a 7i 140 (150 at best). Next time i go shopping i,ll bring my current set of clubs to compare yardage. Think ill read the old foregolf thread and see what its all about.

The OP's 'mistake' or interesting experiment was going to two fitters. Its a bit like going to palm readers and wondering why they dont both tell you the same thing. Have a bit of fun messing, but dont expect fitters to really come up with anything consistent, let alone a club 'spec' that will have any meaningful bearing on how the clubs perform for you.

forget about the number on the club, it's the loft that should be used for distance comparison.

not sure why they would measure you in anything other than a golf stance....Maybe you naturally bend over out squat more?
how do they take this into account...

not necessary the loft GreeBo its more the COG on the Iron, that will dictate the distance spin rate and carry, my current set of Irons are 1 degree weaker than my last set but I carry the ball a bit further after properly been fitted.

the thing is with the rocket blade, the 7 iron is probably acutually a 6 iron if you compare lofts. to get a true 6 iron you would probably have to got to something like the mizuno mp's or something. companies plug that the give you more distance on there irons when a lot of the time they are selling u a set of 5-pw which is probably closer to 4-9 iron just different numbers on them.
