My better half has turned into a bit of a shutter bug.
Up to this point she's been using compact cameras and lately, for the sheer convenience of it, she's been using her Iphone camera, and getting some surprising results.
She wants a camera to get started and I seem to find the Pentax X-5 is a decent bridge camera to get going before moving onto a DSLR later on.
Arguments about going straight for the DSLR not withstanding, what do you think of the X-5?

I don't really understand bridge cameras. But if she wants to learn camera control and become familiar with the settings and try various lenses, I would suggest a Pantax Q.

It's inexpensive, has a good range of lenses, and has almost a full set of DSLR controls which will be good preparation for the move to a DSLR. Its the most cost effective interchangeable lens system as far as I can tell & has a reputation for encouraging creativity...

I'd go for Neither and pick up the FUJI XS1 for only £279

AND USE P832A4V3T8MES for 10% off

Brilliant camera and amazing zoom on it.

Actually, I went mad and bought her a Canon G11, seems like a well received camera and a true bridge between compact point and shoots and the manual control of the dslr.
Some interesting custom firmware as well might make it suitable for astro photography too, combined with a suitable adaptors.

I hope she is happy with it.....I am currently trying to explain to my "alter ego" (i.e. the part of me that thinks I have some spare cash....)exactly why I can't afford a new camera......especially the red Pentax K30 that Amazon France now have for €419....

Well, I got the G11 for €115 from Adverts, I'm getting the digital manual printed and bound by a mate and have a guide to it winging it's way from Amazon, also have a nice leather case and a faux-Canon strap incoming too.
Hopefully that should keep her happy!
